Woman Hospitalized After Vehicle Struck by Tractor Trailer in Towamencin

An unidentified 35-year-old female was taken to Lansdale Hospital via ambulance on Thursday morning after her vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer at the intersection of Welsh and Forty Foot roads in Towamencin Township.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 8:46 a.m. for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment and injuries. Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel said there were two vehicles involved in the crash — a 2021 Volvo tractor trailer driven by a 37-year-old male and a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by the 35-year-old female.

The Subaru sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side via a side-impact from the tractor trailer, police said. Troxel clarified that there was no entrapment, but fire department personnel had to utilize hydraulic tools to get the driver’s side door open and allow the female to exit the vehicle.

Troxel described the woman’s injuries as non-life threatening, adding that no one else was harmed during the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The intersection remained closed for nearly an hour as a result of the crash. Troxel said that based off the preliminary investigation, he does not anticipate that any criminal charges will be filed.

Towamencin Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Hatfield Township Police, Franconia Township Police, Towamencin Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, Harleysville Fire Police and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.
