Lansdale Gives Preliminary Approval For First Fridays' Return

Eighteen quiet first Fridays later, Lansdale’s monthly First Friday celebrations are about to return to the borough calendar.

Lansdale’s Public Safety Committee Wednesday night gave preliminary approval to Discover Lansdale’s highly anticipated monthly celebrations resuming this summer. With the previous approval of Lansdale Day July 17 and Founders Day Aug. 28, it's yet another strong indication of a return to a sense of normalcy as the pandemic and its health restrictions ease.

Committee member Mary Fuller, who is also board president of Discover Lansdale, said that First Fridays would return July 2, and run Aug. 6, Sept. 3 and Oct. 1. They would resume at the previous three locations in town — a DJ at Railroad Plaza with food trucks along Madison Street; a beer garden with DJ at the parking lot on Susquehanna; and a band on Wood Street south of Main. Hours would be 6 to 9 p.m.

The motion to approve carried unanimously; the application now goes to full council for its approval at the June 16 business meeting.

"The people of Lansdale Borough, as well as the neighboring communities, have been put through the ringer due to the pandemic,” said Keith Heffintrayer, who chairs Discover Lansdale’s First Friday committee (and is also the publisher of North Penn Now). "Their lives were stuck on pause, they locked themselves away, and they waited indefinitely. Now that it’s safe to resume normal activities, we want to make sure those same people can return to normalcy in a fun and engaging environment.

"Our committee is looking forward to getting back into action and creating an environment where unique, loving memories can be made. We’re part of an incredible community, and each and every one of them deserves our best efforts. We look forward to seeing everyone out there on July 2.”
