Police Blotter: DUI Hit and Run, Assaults

Upper Gwynedd Man Charged with DUI After Allegedly Hitting Parked Car, Fleeing Scene, Then Returning

Garrett Ian Roberts, 21, Upper Gwynedd Township, was charged June 24 with DUI, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of alcohol with a BAC of .16 percent or higher, driving under the influence with general impairment, and accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle, after his alleged involvement in an early morning May 4 accident on the 200 block of Upper Valley Road in Upper Gwynedd Township.

Police allege Roberts crashed his 2012 Ford Focus into a parked car on the opposite side of Upper Valley Road at 1:53 a.m. May 4. Police said Roberts allegedly fled the scene in his car, but returned to the scene 40 minutes later and admitted to hitting the vehicle. Police said Roberts was driving south on Upper Valley Road, when he lost control of the car, crossed the oncoming lane, and struck the parked car. Roberts told police he had no explanation as to why he hit the car, police said.

Police noticed Roberts had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on his feet, and had the odor of alcohol on his breath, police said. Roberts told police he had two beers 30 minutes before the crash, police allege, and admitted to taking Xanax for anxiety, but was unsure if he took them that day. Roberts failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody and transported to Lansdale Hospital to have blood drawn to determine BAC levels. Police said Roberts’ BAC level was .241 percent and he had traces of THC in his system.

Perkasie Man Allegedly Hits Woman in Face, Charged with Assault

Shaun Rychel, 43, of the unit block of Virginia Avenue, Perkasie Borough, was charged with assault and harassment by Perkasie Borough Police June 17 after he allegedly hit a woman in the face, police said.

Police responded to the scene for the second time that night, police said in an affidavit. Upon arrival, Rychel was found sitting in the grass across the street, claiming he was beaten up, police said. Police spoke with two residents of the home – a man and the victim – and they told police Rychel began arguing with the victim and eventually punched her twice in the left side of the face, police said. The resident grabbed Rychel again, and Rychel allegedly punched the man in the face, police said.

Police said the victim’s face was swollen, cut, and bruised, and her face continued swelling while they were speaking with her, proving the incident just occurred. At that point, Rychel was taken into custody.

Lansdale Man Allegedly Assaults Woman, Busted with Heroin and Used Needle

Luis Sheeder Bonanno, 38, of Lansdale Borough, was charged by Hatfield Township Police June 20 with simple assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and harassment, after he allegedly grabbed and threw a woman to the floor in a Hatfield apartment.

While searching Bonanno after his arrest, police found three unopened baggies containing folded blue wax paper with “SNOW” and a snowflake symbol written on them, which, police said, was heroin. A used hypodermic needle was allegedly found in Bonanno’s back shorts pocket, police said.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause. All claims are merely allegations unless and until a conviction occurs.
