Lansdale Police Arrest Juvenile Male Following Physical Assault with Appeared to be A Firearm

A local juvenile was taken into custody by Lansdale Police on Monday afternoon, following an alleged aggravated assault with what appeared to be a firearm near the intersection of Madison and North Wood streets.

According to Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail, the incident involved two juvenile males who were engaged in a physical altercation near the county’s COVID-19 testing center on Mill Street. Trail said the juvenile suspect approached the juvenile victim and brandished what appeared to be a firearm, then began pistol-whipping the victim in broad daylight — and in front of multiple witnesses.

Trail added that one of the witnesses was a worker at the COVID-19 testing site, who dialed 9-1-1 and reported the incident as a subject armed with a handgun.

According to the initial release, police quickly arrived to the location, at which point the suspect fled the scene on foot and brief foot pursuit ensued. Trail said the suspect was located outside of the Univest building along the 500 block of West Main Street moments later, at which point police drew their weapons and ordered the suspect to surrender.

The suspect — described as a black teenager — complied and was subsequently taken into custody. Trail said the firearm turned out to be a B.B. gun, but added that its design made it appear as a real firearm.

Trail said one male victim was treated for injuries sustained during the assault, and the suspect was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.

Further details could not be provided due to both the suspect and the victim being juveniles, however Trail said his department would be issuing a follow up release sometime on Tuesday afternoon.
