Upper Gwynedd Woman Arrested on DUI Charges Following Hit and Run Crash, Police Say

An Upper Gwynedd woman is facing charges of DUI and related offenses following a hit and run crash that occurred in late December.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the intersection of Gwynedale Way and Supplee Road in Upper Gwynedd Township on Dec. 28 for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police located the victim’s vehicle, which had sustained damage to the driver’s side front bumper and driver’s side fender. The striking vehicle had fled the scene, however a male subject who said he was a passenger in the striking vehicle remained on scene, police said.

The man stated the striking vehicle was operated by his girlfriend, identified as 58-year-old Patricia Dinatale, according to the criminal complaint. Police determined that Dinatale made a left from Supplee Road onto Gwynedale Way and crossed into the opposite lane of travel, which caused the crash.

Investigators went to Dinatale’s residence to contact her and located the striking vehicle in the driveway, the report states. Police said Dinatale was located lying on the floor of her master bedroom, and she was unable to remain in a seated position. Dinatale declined an offer for emergency medical services, according to the complaint.

Dinatale allegedly told police that she had been drinking at a bar within the township then drove her vehicle home from there, the report states. When asked about the crash, Dinatale said she had limited recollection of what happened, but admitted to leaving the scene, police said.

The report states that Dinatale had slurred speech and struggled to stand, at one point almost falling into one of the responding officers. After being assisted to the ground floor of her home, police said Dinatale was completely unable to perform any of the field sobriety tests, and she was subsequently taken into custody.

Police said Dinatale refused to provide a blood sample for a blood-alcohol content analysis.

Charges of DUI, accidents involving damage to attended vehicles, careless driving and failure to keep right were filed against Dinatale on Jan. 13, according to court records. Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 11 at 9:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.

(All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.)
