Two Families Displaced Following Thursday Night Fire in Montgomery Township

Two families have been displaced following a residential fire in Montgomery Township late Thursday night.

According to Bill Wiegman, Director of Fire Services for Montgomery Township, crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Ashley Circle at 10:31 p.m. on Jan. 7 for a report of a building fire. Wiegman said the fire started at an exterior shed and then spread to two twin homes, causing extensive damage to both homes.

“The fire department arrived on location and were met with heavy fire conditions on the first floor of the residence,” said Wiegman. “The fire was rapidly spreading from an exterior shed into the homes. Crews went into service with an aggressive interior fire attack in order to limit the damage to both homes. The departments placed several hand lines in service in both homes as well as the rear exterior of the houses. Crews were able to limit further spread of the fire.”

Wiegman said the fire was placed under control within one hour, and no injuries were reported at the scene. The families residing in each of the homes have been displaced, and the Red Cross has been assigned to assist the occupants.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire units cleared the scene around 1 a.m., and the fire marshal’s office remained on scene to conduct an investigation until 3:30 a.m.

The Fire Department of Montgomery Township was assisted at the scene by fire companies from Hilltown, Chalfont, Colmar, Warrington, Horsham, Hatfield, Lansdale, Wissahickon, North Penn, Hartsville, Upper Gwynedd and Centre Square, as well as units from the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.
