A teenager from Upper Darby who was wanted on first-degree murder charges in connection with the Saturday night shooting at Our Town Alley in East Norriton has turned himself in.
According to a report by 6ABC, 17-year-old Jamel Barnwell surrendered to authorities on Sunday evening. Prior to his surrender, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office issued a release announcing first-degree murder charges against Barnwell and calling for public assistance in locating the teen.
The shooting occurred along the 2900 block of Swede Road in East Norriton Township on Saturday at approximately 6:42 p.m. Police said Barnwell entered the bowling alley with two other men, and only minutes after entering, a fight broke out between Barnwell’s group and another group of men.
“[After entering], a physical altercation involving the victims and the three suspects ensued,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. “Barnwell pulled a firearm with an extended magazine from inside his jacket and began shooting.”
Following the incident, all three of the suspects fled the bowling alley, police reported. However, Barnwell and the other two men left behind their cell phones, said police.
As a result of the shooting, 29-year-old Frank Wade, of Philadelphia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other victims with Wade’s group were also struck by the gunfire, investigators said.
Court records show that no preliminary arraignment has been scheduled at this time, though it is likely to occur sometime on Monday. Barnwell will be charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a minor and related offenses, according to the district attorney’s office.
(All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.)
