A local man is facing charges of aggravated assault and related offenses after he allegedly struck a woman with a baseball bat multiple times during an incident that occurred on Feb. 9.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to a location in the borough at 5:06 p.m. for a report of a woman who was bleeding from the head after being struck with a baseball bat. Upon arrival, police said the victim’s head and hair were blood-soaked and there were pools of blood on the ground.

The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Edward Dyson, had fled the scene prior to police arrival, according to the report.

The victim stated that Dyson had made statements about a conspiracy, then struck her numerous times with a baseball bat, according to the complaint. Police said they observed injuries to the victim’s back, shoulder and head, and she was transported from the scene via ambulance for medical treatment.

The attack was not random in nature, per the complaint. The bat was recovered at the scene, police said.

Approximately 20 minutes later, police located Dyson several blocks from the scene and placed him under arrest, the report states. The complaint states that Dyson’s actions “placed [the victim] in danger of serious bodily injury, with extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

As a result of the incident, Dyson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of simple assault, reckless endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime and harassment.

Dyson was arraigned the following morning by Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, who set bail at $10,000 cash. Dyson was then taken to county jail after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Feb. 24 at 1:15 p.m. in front of Judge Levine.

Court records indicate that Dyson has a lengthy history of assault convictions in Bucks and Montgomery counties, including the following:

  • In 1999, court records show Dyson pleaded guilty to simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct-engage in fighting. Sentencing information was not available.
  • In 2002, court records show Dyson pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct-engage in fighting and reckless endangerment. Sentencing information was not available.
  • In 2003, court records show Dyson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. Sentencing information was not available.
  • In 2007, court records show Dyson pleaded guilty to simple assault and harassment. He was sentenced to one-to-two-years in county jail.
  • In 2015, court records show Dyson pleaded guilty to simple assault and harassment. He was sentenced to three-to-23-months in county jail.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
