Man Arrested After Overdosing on Aerosols at Walmart 3 Times in 1 Week, Police Say

A local man has been placed in the Bucks County Correctional Facility after he allegedly ingested and overdosed on stolen aerosols three times at the Walmart in Hilltown Township.

In the first incident, police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Bethlehem Pike on Jan. 23 at 7:53 p.m. for a report of an unconscious person who had allegedly intentionally inhaled the contents of an aerosol can. The subject was later identified as 37-year-old Sean Hopkins, no fixed abode, and released to the care of medical personnel, police said.

Four days later, police were dispatched at 2:10 p.m. to the same location for a report of an intoxicated subject. Police said they located Hopkins lying unconscious in a field outside after inhaling the contents of an aerosol cleaning product, and he was again released to the care of medical personnel for hospitalization and treatment of injuries related to the inhaling of the aerosol.

Three days later, police were again dispatched to the Walmart located at 1515 Bethlehem Pike for a report of an unconscious male subject in a bathroom of the store. Police identified the subject as Hopkins and placed him under arrest, police said.

Combining all three incidents, Hopkins was charged with one felony count of retail theft, three counts of illegal use of solvents and noxious substances, two counts of defiant trespass and three counts of public drunkenness.

Hopkins was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Kelly Jr., who set bail at 10% of $25,000 cash. Hopkins was then remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on March 30 at 2 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
