Coronavirus Update: County Reports 1,278 Cases and No Additional Deaths Since Friday

Montgomery County announced 1,278 new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths on Tuesday afternoon, representing a four-day reporting period from Jan. 16 through Jan. 19.

Data shows that of the 1,278 cases reported on Tuesday, 39 cases occurred at long-term care facilities, zero occurred at the county jail and the remaining 1,239 cases occurred within the community. The countywide total now stands at 39,880 confirmed positive cases.

North Penn Area Update

Below you will find total amount of cases over the last 30 days for the seven municipalities that comprise North Penn School District. The cases, as of Jan. 19, are as follows:

  • Lansdale Borough – 312 cases and 11 deaths
  • Montgomery Township -- 294 cases and 2 deaths
  • Towamencin Township – 243 cases and 4 deaths
  • Hatfield Township -- 319 cases and 1 death
  • Upper Gwynedd -- 166 cases and 1 death
  • Hatfield Borough -- 66 cases and no deaths
  • North Wales Borough -- 41 cases and no deaths

Totals now stand at 1,441 cases and 19 deaths over the last 30 days.

North Penn School District Update

North Penn School District reported no new cases on Jan. 15, which was their last available day of reporting.

Previous cases within the district, dating from Oct. 30 through Jan. 15, include:

  • Inglewood Elementary – four students and one staff member
  • North Penn High School – five staff members, seven students
  • Montgomery Elementary – three staff members, three students
  • Pennbrook Middle School – two staff member, four students
  • Penndale Middle School – five students and three staff members
  • Pennfield Middle School - two students and one staff member
  • Gwynedd Square Elementary – six staff members and four students
  • Gwyn-Nor Elementary – three students
  • Hatfield Elementary – one student and one staff member
  • North Wales Elementary – one student
  • York Avenue Elementary – two staff members and two students
  • Bridle Path Elementary – three students
  • Walton Farm Elementary – one student and three staff members
  • North Penn School District – four staff members unassigned to a school
  • Oak Park Elementary – one staff member and one student
  • Kulp Elementary – three students
  • Knapp Elementary – two staff members
  • Nash Elementary – one staff member

Update for Neighboring Communities

Cases over the past 30 days in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 159 cases and no deaths
  • Telford Borough – 41 cases and no deaths
  • Franconia Township – 258 cases and 4 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 320 cases and no deaths
  • Skippack Township – 201 cases and 6 deaths
  • Worcester Township – 131 cases and 5 deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 196 cases and 1 death
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 110 cases and 3 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 297 cases and 5 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities over the last 30 days are 1,713 cases and 24 deaths.

Montgomery County Update

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus remains at 1,099.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 2,233 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is a decrease of 490 cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, the county’s seven-day PCR Test Positivity Rate currently stands at 9.8% as of Jan. 14.

According to the Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard, there are currently 347 county residents who are hospitalized due to the coronavirus, of which 45 require the use of a ventilator. A breakdown of cases by hospital is not available.

Montgomery County is now averaging 354.5 new cases per day over the most recent 14-day period.

State Level Update

Earlier on Tuesday, Pennsylvania reported a total of 5,341 new cases since Monday, which brings the state’s total to 777,186 confirmed positive cases.

The state also announced that there were 77 additional confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 19,467 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there is a cumulative total of 59,995 resident cases of COVID-19, and 11,204 cases among employees, for a total of 71,199 at 1,521 distinct facilities in all 67 counties since the beginning of the pandemic. Out of the state’s total deaths, 10,041 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 21,569 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 4,593 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 564 require the use of a ventilator. 16.2% of medical/surgical beds and 17.8% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Jan. 8 through Jan. 14 stood at 12.7%.

As of Jan. 19, 3,494,279 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. About 77% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving an estimated 178,753 active cases across the state.
