Isn’t it wonderful that art is everywhere?
You used to see it in a musical mural painted behind the stage by my friend Ellen Marcus at our now-defunct Underground event space. You can’t avoid the penetrating stare of Father O’Blivion, and the chilling sharpness of the samurai on the Liquid Swords can.
For this brand, art traces all the way back to when our first sales rep, Dan Brett, designed handlebar mustaches on the Emperor Tamarin label. It now extends to our current series of abstract label eeriness by Dan Yowell.
Therefore, it’s only fitting that we level up occasionally. Many followers of the Round Guys Brewery Instagram account have already taken note of our ‘Artist in Residency’ posts every Wednesday. The ‘Artist in Residency’ program features local artists from the Headway Art Collective showing three-to-four of their finest works.
I recently grabbed a moment to sit down and chat with Headway Art Collective founder Erik Sacony alongside two additional artists, Melinda Szczepanksi and Shannon Vogel, on the Round Guys Radio Network’s Art of the Brewery. I wanted to know what makes the collective tick, what makes it a selling point for so many local artists.
The Headway Art Collective stemmed from an event Sacony set up at legendary craft beer bar, the Grey Lodge Pub. Sacony sought after a simple goal: to provide opportunities for artists to pair their art with true creators — local brewers who carefully craft the suds you enjoy so often.
Sacony’s first Lansdale event took place on a damp December Saturday at the Underground. The energy level never dropped, and the temperature quickly warmed amid flowing beer and plumes of laughter.
Tables filled with local artists of all stripes — comic book artists, water paint, pour paint, jewelry, glass, you name it — graced the corners of our space. What a moment, and what an amazing kick off.
Early this year, I decided we needed to freshen up our brand merchandising a bit. I specifically wanted unique pop art designs. Without hesitation, I reached out to Sacony knowing that the collective presented a perfect partnership to start this shirt line.
Magic happens!
I’m very proud to say that our “Well Rounded Series” of t-shirts now features local artists, such as Sacony. Round Guys Brewery will be releasing a series of designs over the course of 2021. Each item exclusively sold online. Then, as sales accumulate, we’ll option the best-selling shirt designs down the line to keep in regular stock at the Lansdale-based pub.
In the meantime, any order’s revenue from our online “Well Rounded Series” goes directly to the artist. Support local makers, support local breweries and artists together.
