A Lansdale woman is facing a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges after she allegedly punched a medic in the face, spit in the face of a police officer, used a racial slur towards another officer and insinuated that she had the coronavirus during a violent domestic incident last week.
Danielle Ferry, 34, has been charged with two felony counts of “aggravated assault – attempts to cause serious bodily injury,” one felony count of “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” one felony count of "aggravated assault – fear of imminent serious bodily injury" and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, false imprisonment and reckless endangerment, following an incident that occurred on Feb. 3.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to a home on South Broad Street at 5 p.m. for a report of a violent domestic incident taking place. Upon arrival, police made contact with the victim, as well as the aggressor, identified as Ferry. Further details of the original incident are being withheld due to the nature of the call.
While on scene speaking with Ferry, police said that she appeared to be heavily intoxicated with glassy bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The report states that Ferry requested to be taken to the hospital to have an x-ray performed on her right jaw, due to an injury that had occurred weeks prior, police said.
The report states that as emergency medical personnel arrived to the scene, Ferry entered her living room to gather her personal belongings and allegedly picked up a near-empty bottle of vodka and attempted to drink it. Police were able to remove the bottle from her hand and attempted to calm her down, at which point she repeatedly stated that she wanted to smoke a cigarette, according to the complaint.
Ferry reportedly approached a medic with a cigarette in her mouth, at which point she was informed that she could not smoke in the ambulance. The medic then removed the cigarette from Ferry’s mouth, and in response, Ferry punched the medic in the left jaw with a closed fist, police said.
Ferry was then taken into custody at 5:40 p.m.
As police were escorting Ferry from her home, she allegedly began to resist arrest and spit in the face of one of the responding officers, the report states. Ferry then told the officer that she had been coughing for weeks, insinuating that she was positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to the complaint.
Additionally, while being transported to the police station, Ferry allegedly referred to the transporting officer as a “n-----r” and a “c—t,” and began spitting in the back seat of the vehicle while stating “I hope you get the coronavirus. I’ve been coughing for weeks,” the report states. Police identified the officer as an African-America female — the same officer who was on the receiving end of multiple racial slurs in August 2020 while attempting to assist a male subject up from a fall.
Ferry was arraigned the following morning by Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, who set bail at $15,000 cash. Ferry was then transported to county jail after failing to post, and her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Feb. 24 at 10:45 a.m.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
