New Year Bringing New Business to Downtown Souderton

The North End Market is a Main Street anchor business in the making, owned by Dr. B. Smith of Ark Animal Hospital. Though 2020 brought many challenges and delays opening the public market, efforts to improve Souderton’s historic downtown district have led to a new advance: opening an artisanal grocery store.

Beginning Feb. 8, the North End Market will be open for online sales on an e-commerce platform that has been in development over recent months. Plans for the physical retail location at 143 N. Main Street are also in progress, which will feature an eatery and outdoor patio seating. The North End Market team anticipates opening 143 N. Main this spring.

“Our mission is to model the change we wish to see in our community, and be a catalyst for improving downtown Souderton,” said Dr. Smith, “and we are always exploring innovative ways to make our mission a reality.”

With that aim in sight, the North End Market has built an online store on a foundation of hyper-local and regionally sourced small batch products. Some of their vendors include Nutty Novelties, Fathead Peppers, Sprinkled Co., Small Batch Kitchen and a line of North End Market snacks in partnership with Moyer Specialty Foods. While these vendors are closest to home, the market will also kick off with many other Pennsylvania products and an always-expanding inventory.

The pandemic has increased demand for online shopping and contactless transactions for businesses of all sizes. As a matter of philosophy, the North End Market believes that businesses should benefit society first, which is why they’re offering the channels to connect local artisans to the communities around them. Shopping at the market will always be safe and easy, with scheduled pick-up times and local delivery options. The website will also feature a list of zip codes eligible for delivery.

Interested artisans who would like a platform to sell their goods are asked to please contact Holland at [email protected]. For further information and updates, follow the North End Market on Facebook by clicking here.
