SEPTA is expanding Regional Rail service starting Sunday.
The regional transit agency announced a new schedule that went into effect this weekend. The new schedule is designed to better serve existing riders and those expected to return for in-person events in early 2022.
The change will bring Regional Rail service levels to 75 percent of pre-COVID-19 levels. Until this weekend, service was up to 65 percent of pre-pandemic levels, according to SEPTA officials.
The service increase comes as ridership has only risen to roughly 40 percent of pre-pandemic levels, but ridership is expected to increase in the coming months..
“We are focused on providing safe, efficient and reliable service for our customers as we continue to move through this recovery,” said SEPTA CEO and General Manager Leslie Richards.
SEPTA’s service on buses, subways, and trolleys has returned to 52 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
