This month is all about dogs in Bucks County Treasurer Kris Ballerini’s office.

Starting December 1, dog owners can purchase their 2022 license from the County Treasurer’s Office. State law requires that all dogs three months and older be licensed by January 1 of each year.

An annual dog license is $8.50, or $6.50 if the animal is spayed or neutered. Lifetime licenses are available for dogs that have permanent identification like a microchip or tattoo. Senior citizens and people with disabilities may be eligible for discounts.

The dog license application is simple and only requests owner contact information and details about the dog being licensed, including name, age, breed, and color.

In addition to issuing licenses, County Treasurer Kris Ballerini is organizing a donation drive among county employees to benefit local animal shelters.

“Please don’t forget our four-legged friends this holiday season,” said Ballerini while speaking about the donation drive at Wednesday’s Commissioner’s meeting.

One of the shelters that will receive donations is Tiny Miracles, a rescue farm run by Chalfont resident Kim Rutherford. Rutherford was also in attendance at the Commissioner’s meeting with rescue dog Jett. She emphasized the importance of “adopt, don’t shop” when it comes to finding a family pet, and stressed that pet ownership is not an in-the-moment decision but instead one that can last well over a decade.
