Victim Dies Following Last Week’s Crash on Allentown Road in Towamencin

The local community lost a familiar face Saturday.

Shayna Bergey, who worked as the Chick-fil-A Lansdale Director of IT, succumbed to injuries at an area hospital Saturday morning that she suffered Tuesday afternoon November 30 in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Allentown Road at the curve by Tennis-Lukens Cemetery, in which she was extricated by Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. crew and airlifted via PENNSTAR helicopter for immediate treatment of traumatic injuries.

The accident occurred around 12:12 p.m. Nov. 30, with reported heavy entrapment, involving two vehicles – a sedan and a minivan – and two patients, one who was unconscious, according to a Facebook post from Emergency Alerts of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The first rescue was completed by 12:30 p.m. Responding agencies included engine, squad and rescue companies of Towamencin Vol. Fire Co.; engine, squad and ladder companies of Hatfield Fire Co.; Harleysville Fire Company; Fairmount Fire Company; and Volunteer Medical Services Corps of Lansdale. PENNSTAR, a third Ambulance Service for Advanced Life Support, was requested to the scene.

Bergey, who also worked at a local dairy farm, had just been appointed Director of IT for Chick-fil-A Lansdale. She was approaching eight years with the franchise. Bergey, who was homeschooled according to her Facebook page, became a training coordinator in 2020 and held the role of Chick-fil-A Grand Opening trainer, where she would travel across the United States to coach Chick-fil-A staff.

Bergey – or “Chee-Chee” as she was known to her co-workers – had the two-lane drive-through process down to a science. Her favorite Chick-fil-A meal was the breakfast hash browns with BBQ sauce, and a kale crunch side.

Bergey’s friends and Chick-fil-A Landale co-workers took to social media to remember their friend and colleague’s “vibrant, fun-loving and full of sass” personality.

“So thankful that Chick-fil-A gives me the opportunity to meet & work with so many amazing people,” wrote Chick-fil-A Lansdale owner/operator Dawn Montgomery Friel on Facebook. “We had the pleasure of having Shayna on our team for the past 7+ years … She couldn’t wait to work at CFA Lansdale. She applied and got hired right when she turned 16.”

Friel wrote that Bergey was vibrant, fun-loving and full of sass who had landed her dream job at Chick-fil-A.

“She wholeheartedly loved CFA, her CFA Lansdale family and her CFA Corp Grand Opening friends,” Friel wrote.

Friel wrote Bergey was eager to learn and hardworking. She moved her way up in the organization to her new IT position.

“She had a passion for training,” Friel wrote. “Shayna always did thins the CFA way, and if you weren’t, she was going to show you how.”

“Your laughter and coaching will forever echo in our walls,” she wrote.

A friend, Natalie Taylor, remembered Bergey as “extremely proud, independent, sassy and passionate” who never ceased to amaze her with her “neverending animal sounds.”

“You brought a bright atmosphere to work with you … and I will deeply miss you,” Taylor wrote.

Another friend, Jennifer Hamilton, said Bergey will always be in her heart forever.

“You had such an impact in my life and so many other around you,” Hamilton wrote. “I will miss our talks and swim sessions in the summer. You made me a better person.”

Bergey’s brother Luke honored his late sister with a Facebook post on Saturday.

“I can only imagine her big smile when she saw our God,” he wrote. “Me and my family have all greatly appreciated your prayers and continued prayers during this difficult time.”

In the comment section under Hamilton’s post, one Chick-fil-A customer gave condolences to Bergey’s loss, and perhaps spoke for all of us who may have not known the name, but recognized her face and respected her professionalism.

“I am so saddened by her loss,” wrote Tammy Reynolds. “We didn’t know one another personally, but her beautiful face for the last 8 years of going into CFA will be missed.”

Under Chick-fil-A Lansdale’s Facebook post from Sunday morning, nearly 100 customers and visitors have honored Bergey’s memory.

“My deepest condolences to her and the Chick-Fil-A family, absolutely tragic,” wrote Alex Acciani. “I’m so very sorry, we will all be praying for Shayna and her family,” wrote Mike Lutz. “I recognize her from being a patron and she was always so kind!!! What a tragedy. Prayers for family and friends,” wrote Ashlen Godshall.

“We are so sorry to hear this news. She was such a sweet and welcoming presence. Praying for her family and friends,” wrote Tracy Whitney. “So sorry for the families loss, she does look like she shined the world,” wrote Teresa Smith. “Prayers for you all. She was always so sweet and served with a smile. Condolences for the loss of coworker who became family,” wrote Jill Bagley.
