Man Charged with 4th DUI Following Traffic Stop in Montgomery Township

A Quakertown man is facing a felony DUI charge following a traffic stop in Montgomery Township early Sunday morning.

At 1:36 a.m. on Nov. 28, Montgomery Township Police observed a black SUV speeding northbound on Bethlehem Pike with a rear brake light out, according to the criminal complaint. Police followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection with Line Street, the report states.

As police approached the vehicle, they made contact with the driver, identified as 41-year-old Jason Plenderleith. Police said Plenderleith smelled of alcohol and added that his eyes were glassy and he was slurring his words.

Police said Plenderleith failed a pair of verbal and field sobriety tests, and he was taken into custody for DUI at 2:01 a.m. Plenderleith refused a blood draw for blood-alcohol testing, according to the complaint.

As a result of the traffic stop, Plenderleith was charged with one felony count of DUI along with summary counts of no rear lights and speeding.

Plenderleith was arraigned that morning by District Judge Henry Schireson, who set bail at 10% of $5,000 cash. Court records show Plenderleith posted bail the following day, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 7 at 11:45 a.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
