Code Blue Shelter At Trinity Lutheran In Lansdale Seeks Volunteers

As temperatures plummet, the need for volunteers at Lansdale’s Code Blue Emergency Shelter rises. And as the the overnight shelter enters the 2021-22 winter season, an urgent call is going out for volunteer help.

Lansdale’s Code Blue Shelter, hosted at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., provides the homeless a warm place to sleep, a hot dinner and breakfast, and needed supplies and services. Whenever the temperature drops below 30 degrees for most of the night, at least six volunteers are needed to open the emergency shelter.

Two or more volunteers are needed for each shift: intake, 7:30 p.m.-midnight; overnight, midnight-6 a.m.; and breakfast/clean up, 6–8 a.m. There is no minimum shift requirement — even one night of volunteering helps the shelter open on the most frigid winter nights. New volunteers will be paired with experienced volunteers. And the more that sign up, the lighter the work for all.

Code Blue is hosted at Trinity’s Luther Hall (the building to the right of the front of the church). Volunteers must complete a state background check at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp and email results along with a copy of a COVID vaccination card to the secure email address [email protected].

Follow the Lansdale Code Blue Facebook page for opening announcements, and provide an email address to be added to the distribution list for updates.

For more information, call Mark Lanan at  (215) 272-4979 or Leslie Johnson at (267) 243-6531, visit Trinity's Code Blue website, or email [email protected].
