Montgomery Township will hold its first ever “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive through the American Red Cross on Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Montgomery Township Community & Recreation Center.
Battle of the Badges is a friendly competition among first responders to see who can recruit the most eligible blood donors from their communities. Presenting donors will have the opportunity to cast their vote by donating with the Montgomery Township Police or Fire departments to help determine the winner. The organization with the most votes will get bragging rights and a plaque.
The Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage as the number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries rise and deplete the nation’s blood supply. Donors of all blood types – especially type O – are urged to make an appointment to give as soon as possible to prevent further impact to patients.
All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last. In addition, throughout August, presenting donors will receive a voucher for a free medium iced coffee and a free classic donut, redeemable at participating Dunkin’ restaurants in the Greater Philadelphia Region. Presenting donors will also receive a free mug from their chosen department – police or fire.
