Towamencin Township Police have released the ID of the victim of a fatal crash that occurred early Monday morning along Sumneytown Pike near North Penn High School.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Jordan Sims, of Harleysville. Police said Sims was the driver of a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, which also had a 24-year-old female front-seat passenger at the time of the crash.
According to Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel, Sims’ vehicle was traveling westbound on Sumneytown Pike around 2:21 a.m. on Aug. 9 when it collided with a 2006 Nissan Murano — driven by a 25-year-old male from Philadelphia — in the eastbound lane of Sumneytown Pike.
Both the driver of the Nissan and the female passenger in the Chevy were hospitalized as a result of the crash, police said.
“Investigators are still analyzing crash data and awaiting toxicology reports on both drivers,” said Troxel. “Determinations as to what, if any, charges may be filed in relation to the crash will not be made until the investigation is completed.”
The road remained closed to traffic in the area of the crash for a period in order for rescue to take place and to allow crash-scene investigators to collect evidence and document the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troxel said.
Towamencin Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Upper Gwynedd and Hatfield Township police, as well as Towamencin Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Fire Department, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and Harleysville EMS.
