Montgomery Township Man Charged After Flashing Stun Gun During Road Rage Incident, Police Say

A Montgomery Township man is facing charges stemming from an alleged road-rage incident that occurred in mid-June.

Thomas Gerhart, 23, has been charged with misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon, as well as summary counts of harassment and following too closely, in connection with the incident.

Police said the incident began at approximately 7:46 p.m. on June 18 in the area of Bethlehem Pike and Upper State Road. Gerhart, who was operating a black BMW 330i, began tailgating a male victim for more than two miles, and at one point pulled alongside the victim and displayed a stun gun, according to police.

The criminal complaint states that the victim believed Gerhart had displayed a firearm, and immediately notified police. The victim then drove away from the area after he noticed Gerhart had turned off from the road, police said.

Police said Gerhart admitted to following too closely and pointing the stun gun at the victim. The complaint states investigators recovered a Sabre S-1009 stun gun via a search of Gerhart’s vehicle.

Court records indicate that charges were filed against Gerhart on July 9. His first court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Aug. 24 at 11:15 a.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
