One Dead, Two Injured in Vehicle Crash on Sumneytown Pike Early Monday Morning

One person was killed and two others were hospitalized following a vehicle crash on Sumneytown Pike near North Penn High School early Monday morning.

In an interview with North Penn Now, Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel said first responders were dispatched to the area of 1080 Sumneytown Pike at 2:21 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Troxel said one of the involved vehicles had a male driver and a female passenger, and the other vehicle’s sole occupant was a male driver.

All three occupants were in their 20’s in age, according to Troxel, who described the crash as “very serious” and irequiring extrication and rescue.

Two of the victims were transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital, while the third victim was transported via ambulance to Lansdale Hospital. The JeffSTAT2 medevac was dispatched to the scene, however it did not fly anyone out, Troxel said.

The road remained closed to traffic in the area of the crash for a period in order for rescue to take place and to allow crash-scene investigators to collect evidence and document the scene, Troxel said. The investigation is ongoing at this time, so there is no determination as to whether any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.

Troxel said investigators are working to notify the family members of the deceased, so he is limited in what information he can provide at this time. It is unclear if the victim is male or female at this time.

North Penn Now is withholding the make and models of the vehicles involved until police notify the next of kin for the deceased.

Towamencin Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Upper Gwynedd and Hatfield Township police, as well as Towamencin Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Fire Department, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and Harleysville EMS.
