Towamencin Police are actively searching for a convicted sex offender who has absconded from her lifetime requirement to register her address and photographs under Megan’s Law.
Maria Eugenia McGovern, 40, was charged on June 30 with felony counts of failing to register with the Pennsylvania State Police and failure to verify address and be photographed, according to court records. Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel confirmed to North Penn Now that the investigation is active and police are seeking McGovern’s current whereabouts.
McGovern was sentenced to four-to-15 years in state prison Aug. 1, 2008, after pleading guilty to one felony count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years old. McGovern, who was residing in Lower Fredrick at the time, reportedly gave a 15-year-old girl alcohol and marijuana in May 2006, then sexually assaulted the girl while she was intoxicated.
Court records indicate that McGovern was released from prison in June 2012, at which point she began her lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender. Her file was last updated on June 4, according to the state police.
McGovern is described as a Hispanic white female standing four-feet-10-inches tall and weighing 135 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
