Montco Man Arrested After Investigators Find Nearly 400 Files of Child Porn on His Phone, Police Say

A Montgomery County man is facing hundreds of felony charges stemming from an investigation by the Cheltenham Township Police Department and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau into the possession of child pornography.

Harley Strauss, 47, of Glenside, has been charged with 100 counts of possession of child pornography and 100 counts of criminal use of a communication facility, in connection with the investigation.

On March 29, investigators from the county detectives received four tips from the Delaware County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force regarding 11 images and videos of suspected child pornography. The tips had been sent by Facebook, Twitter and Kik Messenger, and the images depicted children between ages 2 and 13 years old involved in sexual activity, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators traced the IP addresses associated with the tips to Strauss’ home on South Easton Road in Glenside, police said. A search warrant was served on the home on April 2, and investigators recovered Strauss’ iPhone, the report states.

Following a forensic download of the phone, investigators found 313 images and 73 videos of children engaged in sex acts in various stages of undress, the report states. Of those images and videos, 218 depicted children under 13-years-old who were engaged in sexual activities, according to the report.

As a result of the investigation, Strass was taken into custody on April 23 and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth Casey, who set bail at $20,000 unsecured. He was then released from custody.

Strauss’ next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 13 at 11:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Christopher Cerski.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
