A McLaren supercar burned to ruins on Saturday afternoon, following a fire next to a gas pump at a local Wawa.
First responders were dispatched to the 500 block of Dekalb Pike in Upper Gwynedd Township at 2 p.m. for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, members of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department found a vehicle on fire with the blaze extending to the nearby fuel pump.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before a total loss of the vehicle, which was reduced to a pile of burning metal and plastic.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was not released.
Sources on scene told North Penn Now photographer Bob Kelly that the vehicle was a 2021 McLaren supercar. The source said the vehicle had recently been purchased and had only been driven 100 miles.
The vehicle had a value of $560,000, and was one of only 750 vehicle manufactured, the source said.
Crews remained at the scene until approximately 4 p.m., at which point the scene was fully cleared. Members of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department were assisted at the scene by units from the North Penn Fire Company, Fire Department of Montgomery Township and Upper Gwynedd Police Department.
