Franconia Police Release Details of Afternoon Shooting Incident on Allentown Road

UPDATE: April 21, 5:42 p.m. – Franconia Township Police have released the details regarding this afternoon’s incident.

Police said they encountered a lone female in a vehicle within the Franconia Township Park at approximately 2:10 p.m., adding it was immediately apparent that the woman was armed and in crisis. The initial officer then called for assistance, prompting additional officers to respond to secure the park and evacuate the area.

Allentown Road was closed between Harleysville Pike and Indian Creek Road due to the incident, police said.

After speaking to officers for approximately 25 minutes, the woman sustained a self-inflicted, non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, police said. The previous report from Alertpage proved to be partially inaccurate, as there was no male participant involved in the incident and the female was the one to sustain the injury.

First responders provided first aid, and the female was transported from the scene via ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment. No police or members of the public were injured during the incident, police said.

The park was re-opened at 3:30 p.m.

Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by members of Lower Salford, Towamencin, Telford and Souderton police departments, as well as members of the Telford Fire Company, Harleysville Community Ambulance and Franconia Township Public Works.

Due to the nature of the incident, the female’s name and information will not be released.
