After a 2020 season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Penn Little League (NPLL) held their 2021 Opening Day ceremonies on Saturday at the Senator Holl Complex on Moyers Rd.
Fans, family and friends gathered to watch the AA, AAA and Intermediate League’s players and coaches parade onto the field for the pregame festivities. After the singing of the National Anthem by Tyler Coyne, game balls were dropped from atop Colmar Fire Company’s Ladder 12 by former NPLL President and Firefighter Doug Cervi.
There were also ceremonial first pitches thrown out by exiting board members and coaches.
Also recognized were members of the 2020 Raiders U-12 Travel team, known as “The Boys of the Lost Season.” The team missed their chance to attend a tournament at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY last summer due to the pandemic.
The team donated the funds they had raised for that trip — more than $15,000 — back to NPLL, which will be used to restore one of the playing fields at the complex according to current NPLL President Michelle Sands.
