Another Safety Advisory Issued Regarding a Suspicious White Van, This Time in Whitpain Township

Whitpain Township Police issued a Community Safety Advisory on Monday afternoon, regarding a suspicious white van that recently drove past a group of children several times and may have followed them home.

Investigators said the incident occurred on April 1 in the area of the basketball courts located near Mount Pleasant and Maple avenues. The driver of the van is described as a light skinned — possibly white — male with a beard, wearing a blue hat. Police said the suspect was described as approximately 25 years old. The male driver never engaged or spoke with the children, and there is no indication that he attempted to lure them, according to the advisory.

Police said the parents of the children recently came forward after being made aware of a similar incident that had occurred in Ambler Borough last week.

In that incident, police said that a suspicious white Dodge Van was observed along the 400 block of Edgewood Drive at approximately 1 p.m. on April 6. The van reportedly backed into the driveway of a home that had children playing outside, causing the children to immediately run inside of the home, police said.

The driver of the van in that incident was described as a white male between the ages of 18 and 25, with black hair and hat. The male reportedly exited the vehicle and forcefully knocked on the door of the home, however the children did not answer the door, according to the report.

The driver and the van then left the scene, traveling towards Bethlehem Pike, police said. The homeowner told police that they were not expecting any deliveries, and no package was delivered, according to the report.

It is unclear if the incidents are related, however Whitpain Police noted the similarity between both of the reports. Investigators are asking area residents who may observe similar suspicious activity to immediately dial 9-1-1.

Anyone with information regarding the April 1 incident is asked to contact the Whitpain Township Police Department at 610-279-9033. Anyone with information regarding the April 6 incident is asked to contact the Ambler Borough Police Department at 215-643-6444. Tips can also be submitted electronically by clicking here.
