Upper Gwynedd Police have provided an update to an incident that involved a man being run over by his own vehicle on Friday afternoon.
First responders were dispatched to the 700 block of South Broad Street at approximately 3 p.m. on April 9 for a report of a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, police located a 49-year-old male victim who had been run over by his own pick-up truck.
Upper Gwynedd Police Chief David Duffy told North Penn Now that the victim had exited his vehicle, at which point it began rolling backwards toward South Broad Street. The victim then attempted to re-enter the vehicle, but he was knocked down by the driver’s side door, police said.
The victim told emergency medical personnel that he had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident, police said. As a result of the incident, the victim sustained major trauma to his left leg, and he was airlifted via JeffSTAT to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment, police said.
No one else was harmed during the incident, and the vehicle did not strike anything but the victim, Duffy said. North Penn Now has confirmed that the victim remains hospitalized as of Monday morning.
Upper Gwynedd Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department.
