Coronavirus Update: County Reports 61 New Cases, No Additional Deaths On Friday

Montgomery County announced 61 new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths on Friday afternoon.

Data shows that of the 61 cases reported on Friday, two cases occurred in long-term care facilities and the remaining 59 cases occurred within the community. The countywide total now stands at 11,633 confirmed positive cases. 

In the North Penn area, Montgomery Township has the most cases with 294 and 30 deaths, followed by Lansdale Borough with 280 and 31 deaths, Hatfield Township with 217 and three deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 183 and 38 deaths, Towamencin Township with 180 and 27 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 41 cases and North Wales Borough with 32 cases.

Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 1,227 and 129 deaths. Total cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 95
  • Telford Borough – 42
  • Franconia Township – 107 and 12 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 145 and one death
  • Skippack Township – 143 and six deaths
  • Worcester Township – 102 and four deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 203 and 14 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 184 and 35 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 313 and 38 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 1,334 cases and 110 deaths.

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus continues to stand at 830, of which more than 80% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 310 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 9 over the previous week. Additionally, the county’s PCR Test Positivity Rate — which had been below 3% from Aug. 4 through Aug. 17 — is back above 3% and currently stands at 3.18% as of Sept. 11.

Also on Friday, Pennsylvania reported 760 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 148,683 confirmed positive cases. The state also announced that there were 21 additional confirmed deaths on Friday, bringing the total to 7,934 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 22,162 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,839 cases among employees, for a total of 27,001 at 957 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,343 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 10,281 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 521 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 50 require the use of a ventilator. 23.6% of hospital beds and 30.4% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 172,682 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 6,046 returned positive results. The rate of positive tests for that period is 3.5%, according to state data.

As of Sept. 18, 1,732,805 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. 82% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving approximately 26,763 active cases across the state.
