Stolen Puppy Returned to Pets Plus, Male Suspect ID’d as Police Continue Search for Female Suspect

Lansdale Borough Police have confirmed that the puppy that was stolen from Pets Plus on South Broad Street last Thursday has been safely returned.

“Butters,” a 3-month-old lab mix puppy who was recently transported to the facility from a kill shelter in Louisiana, was stolen on Aug. 27 at approximately 5:17 p.m. According to Nikki Gallagher, who works at Pets Plus, a man and a woman were walking through the store with a young child for more than 45 minutes while they waited for all employees to be occupied with other customers. The woman then exited the store and pulled her vehicle up to the curb, at which point the man pushed the puppy out of the store in a shopping cart and placed the dog in the vehicle, Gallagher said.

Police said that after the surveillance footage of the couple was released on Friday, they began receiving tips from the public.

“As a result, Butters was safely recovered on [Saturday] and is back in the custody of Pets Plus,” police said in a statement. “The investigation is still ongoing, however at this time charges are pending against an adult male for theft.”

Though charges are pending against the male suspect, police are still working to identify the female suspect. Anyone with information regarding the second suspect is asked to contact the Lansdale Borough Police Department at 215-368-1801. Tips can also be emailed to [email protected].

North Penn Now will provide an update to this story once the criminal complaint against the first suspect is filed with the district court.
