Armed with buckets, bristle brushes and spray bottles, members of Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) cleaned tombstones at Wentz’s United Church of Christ in Worcester on Saturday morning, Oct. 24, performed as a Day of Service project.
Samantha Freise, the chapter’s Regent, demonstrated how to responsibly clean the markers, employing an environmentally friendly product similar to the solution used at Arlington Cemetery.
The process involved spraying the tombstone with D/2 Biological Solution, careful scrubbing, and rinsing with water. Then, around two dozen DAR members and guests got to work on more than 100 tombstones erasing dirt, lichen and discoloration from pollutants that had accumulated over time.
Graves at Wentz’s UCC Cemetery date back to the 1700s. It is the final resting place of 32 Revolutionary War soldiers.
