On Monday night, the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department (UGFD) traveled to the George Haggar Fire Training Center in Upper Dublin Township for their weekly training session.
A live burn exercise was hosted by members of the Fort Washington Fire Company, in which bales of hay and wood pallets were placed in several locations inside a two-story building and ignited. The firefighters worked on all aspects of battling a structure fire, including search drills, hose handling, ladder placement and knocking down the fire. UGFD emergency medical technicians (EMT) were in attendance to monitor the crews throughout the evening and make sure they stayed hydrated.
In addition to the line officers, firefighters and EMT's, a group of junior firefighters — ages 14-17 — were on hand as part of their ongoing training. UGFD Captain Jeff Tomczak, who also serves as the Fire Marshal for the township, worked with the group throughout the night, explaining the different scenarios being played out.
The night provided valuable experience in attacking structure fires. See the photos below from their training.
