Also on Thursday, Pennsylvania reported 2,063 new coronavirus cases, which brings the state’s total to 188,360 confirmed positive cases. Officials said the new cases, which represent one of the highest single-day totals since the beginning of the pandemic, was the result of a faulty data file sent by a lab earlier in the week. As such, some of the cases being reported on Thursday should have been included in Wednesday’s total.

The state also announced that there were 30 additional confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 8,533 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 24,990 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,436 cases among employees, for a total of 30,426 at 1,036 distinct facilities in 62 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,670 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 11,846 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 1042 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 110 require the use of a ventilator. 16.7% of medical/surgical beds and 20.9% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 231,483 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 10,375 returned positive results.

As of Oct. 22, 2,185,079 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. 79% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving an estimated 39,556 active cases across the state.
