Coronavirus Update: County Reports 67 New Cases, 1 Additional Death on Tuesday

Montgomery County announced 67 new coronavirus cases and one additional death on Tuesday morning.

Data shows that of the 67 cases reported on Tuesday morning, two cases occurred at long-term care facilities and the remaining 65 cases occurred within the community. The countywide total now stands at 12,934 confirmed positive cases. 

North Penn Area Update

In the North Penn area, Montgomery Township has the most cases with 337 and 30 deaths, followed by Lansdale Borough with 302 and 31 deaths, Hatfield Township with 247 and three deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 201 and 38 deaths, Towamencin Township with 199 and 27 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 41 cases and North Wales Borough with 36 cases.

Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 1,363 and 129 deaths.

Update for Neighboring Communities

Total cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 102
  • Telford Borough – 44
  • Franconia Township – 127 and 12 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 172 and one death
  • Skippack Township – 165 and six deaths
  • Worcester Township – 125 and four deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 226 and 15 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 201 and 35 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 357 and 38 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 1,515 cases and 111 deaths.

Montgomery County Update

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 838, of which more than 80% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 339 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 10 cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, the county’s PCR Test Positivity Rate dropped below 3% on Sept. 15 and stands at 2.28% as of Oct. 16.

According to the Pennsylvania COVID-19 Early Warning Monitoring System, average daily hospitalizations in Montgomery County hold a seven-day average of 39.1, compared to an average of 32.3 over the previous seven-day period.

State Level Update

Also on Tuesday, Pennsylvania reported 1,557 new coronavirus cases, which brings the state’s total to 184,872 confirmed positive cases. The state also announced that there were 33 additional confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 8,533 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 24,735 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,403 cases among employees, for a total of 30,138 at 1,028 distinct facilities in 62 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,614 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 11,739 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 918 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 94 require the use of a ventilator. 19.4% of medical/surgical beds and 21.3% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 228,245 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 10,011 returned positive results.

As of Oct. 20, 2,155,639 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. 79% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving an estimated 38,823 active cases across the state.
