A Lansdale man has been sentenced to county jail after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the January 2019 stabbing of a resident of the Broadmore Apartments in Lansdale Borough.
Court records indicate that 33-year-old Randall Stewart entered a guilty plea to one felony count of aggravated assault on Oct. 16. Following the guilty plea, Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Thomas Branca sentenced Stewart to 208 days to 23 months in county jail, followed by four years of probation.
Additional misdemeanor charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment, possessing an instrument of crime, defiant trespass and prowling were dismissed in exchange for Stewart’s guilty plea.
Court records also indicate that Stewart has received credit for 208 days of time served, meaning he will be immediately eligible for release so long as Stewart meets with the county’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and complies with their recommendations. Judge Branca also ruled that Stewart is prohibited from having contact with the victim and is to be evaluated for mental health supervision.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred in late-January 2019, in which a man was stabbed in the back as he entered his apartment.
The incident occurred during the evening of Jan. 25, 2019, when police responded to the 600 block of South Broad Street for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim—a 45-year-old male—who stated that he was stabbed in the back as he was entering the M Building of the apartment complex.
An initial search of the area—aided by K-9 assistance from the Whitemarsh Township Police Department—revealed a person of interest, but no arrest was made. Officials then released a description of the attacker to the public, in the hopes of locating his whereabouts.
The victim was taken from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital, and has since made a full recovery, police said.
Then, on April 1, 2019, Lansdale Borough Police announced that they had made an arrest in connection with the incident, at which point Stewart was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime, defiant trespass and loitering and prowling at night time, in connection with the incident.
