Coronavirus Update: County Reports Record 309 New Cases, 1 Additional Death on Friday

Montgomery County announced 309 new coronavirus cases and one additional death on Friday afternoon, representing the highest single-day increase in new cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Data shows that of the 309 cases reported Friday, four cases occurred at long-term care facilities, none occurred at the county jail and the remaining 305 cases occurred within the community. The countywide total now stands at 16,125 confirmed positive cases.

North Penn Area Update

The Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard is no longer providing cummulative total cases by municipality since the beginning of the pandemic. Instead, the data now reveals cases by municipality over the last 30 days. The results, as of Nov. 13, are as follows:

  • Lansdale: 98 cases and no deaths
  • Montgomery Township: 92 cases and no deaths
  • Towamencin Township: 84 cases and no deaths
  • Hatfield Township: 80 cases and 1 death
  • Upper Gwynedd: 51 cases and no deaths
  • Hatfield Borough: 15 cases and no deaths
  • North Wales Borough: 10 cases and 1 death

In total, there have been 430 cases and two deaths over the last 30 days across the municipalities comprising North Penn School District.

North Penn School District Update

 

According to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, five more cases were reported among students and staff on Friday. Those cases include:

 

  • One staff member from Gwynedd Square Elementary
  • One student from Hatfield Elementary
  • One student from North Wales Elementary
  • One student from North Penn High School
  • One student from Penndale Middle School

 

 

Previous cases within the district, some of which remain active, include:

  • Three students at Inglewood Elementary
  • One staff member at York Avenue Elementary
  • Two staff members at North Penn High School
  • One student at Montgomery Elementary
  • One student at Pennbrook Middle School
  • Two staff members at Montgomery Elementary
  • One staff member at Pennbrook Middle School

Update for Neighboring Communities

Cases over the past 30 days in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 19 cases and no deaths
  • Telford Borough – 12 cases and no deaths
  • Franconia Township – 50 cases and no deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 66 cases and no deaths
  • Skippack Township – 44 cases and no deaths
  • Worcester Township – 60 cases and 1 death
  • Whitpain Township – 70 cases and no deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 41 cases and no deaths
  • Horsham Township – 121 cases and 1 death

Totals across the surrounding municipalities over the last 30 days are 483 cases and two deaths.

Montgomery County Update

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 848, of which nearly 80% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 1,471 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 598 cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, the county’s 14-day PCR Test Positivity Rate currently stands above 5%.

According to the Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard, and as of Nov. 12, there are currently 170 county residents who are hospitalized due to the coronavirus, of which 19 require the use of a ventilator. The 14-day average of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Montgomery County is 113, according to county data.

A breakdown of cases by hospital is not available.

State Level Update

Earlier on Friday, Pennsylvania reported 5,531 new cases, which brings the state’s total to 254,387 confirmed positive cases. The state also announced that there were 30 additional confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 9,224 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

Friday’s total of 5,531 new cases represents the highest single-day total for the commonwealth since the beginning of the pandemic — the fourth such record in as many days.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 28,990 resident cases of COVID-19, and 6,028 cases among employees, for a total of 35,018 at 1,144 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 6,052 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 13,315 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 2,314 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 226 require the use of a ventilator. 15.4% of medical/surgical beds and 18.2% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 332,640 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 28,290 returned positive results.

As of Nov. 13, 2,523,984 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. About 70% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving an estimated 76,316 active cases across the state.
