Steve Malagari Defeats Challenger Miles Arnott in 53rd Legislative District

Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Steve Malagari has defeated Republican challenger Miles Arnott in the race for Pennsylvania’s 53rd Legislative District.

Vote counts from the Montgomery County Board of Elections show that Malagari has received 19,649 votes to 16,282 for Arnott, which is a difference of 3,369. Those numbers are after the county has tallied 98.64% of the votes, but the remaining uncounted ballots would not be enough to overcome Arnott's deficit.

"I'm happy with this result," said Malagari. "It was a very unorthodox campaign season this year in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges that it posed, but we stuck to running a positive campaign and we're happy that it worked. Our community came together, they got out and they voted. It was great to see democracy in action."

Malagari said he was very thankful for the efforts of the election board, poll workers and volunteers who assisted on election day, and he was eager to build on his office's success over the next two years.
