Lansdale Police Chief Issues Statement Condemning the Death of George Floyd

Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail has issued a statement regarding the death of George Floyd.

The statement reads, in its entirety:

The events surrounding the death of Mr. Floyd, while in police custody, is deeply disturbing to me and should be of grave concern to all Americans.

The actions of the officer(s) were so far outside of our training and protocol that it shocks the conscience of anyone who watched the disturbing video. I laud the Minneapolis Police Department for their prompt termination of the involved officers and today’s arrest of the officer who took Mr. Floyd’s life.

Lansdale Police have made huge investments to build trust and legitimacy with every member of the community, regardless of race, color, creed, nationality, sexual identity or gender orientation. Yesterday, I personally spoke with community leaders, including the president of the Ambler Branch of the NAACP, to express my outrage at this injustice.

Lansdale Police will continue our efforts to earn back the trust of the community, which was lost because of this horrific event, and we send our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Floyd. I ask members of our community to keep the Floyd family, and our grieving nation, in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.

Signed,

Michael Trail

Chief of Police, Lansdale Borough
