In normal years, the Towamencin Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) would have paraded down Main street in the Memorial Day parade and would have taken part in the ceremony to honor veterans in Lansdale, PA. Cancellation of the parade and public event due to the COVID-19 pandemic provided a different opportunity.
Instead, officers of Towamencin DAR held a small Memorial Day ceremony at Wentz’s United Church of Christ cemetery in Worcester, to honor the memory of those who died in action while serving in the U.S. military. Several chapter members and congregants of the church were also in attendance.
The cemetery is the final resting place for about 150 veterans, some of whose graves’ whereabouts are unknown, including some who may have died in action. A central monument erected in 1916 to memorialize unknown descendants of Wentz's church founders was chosen as the site for the ceremony. Chapter Regent Samantha G. Freise placed flowers at the monument and said a few words, and a prayer was offered by Chaplain Marian Helinsky.
