Montgomery County officials announced 111 new COVID-19 cases and 12 additional deaths on Wednesday afternoon, with eight new cases and five additional deaths occurring in the North Penn area.
Data shows that of the 111 cases reported on Wednesday, 17 occurred in long-term care facilities and 94 new cases reported outside of those facilities. The countywide total now stands at 6,126 confirmed positive cases.
In the North Penn area, Montgomery Township has the most cases with 187 and 27 deaths, followed by Lansdale Borough with 162 and 15 deaths, Hatfield Township with 127 and two deaths, Towamencin Township with 101 and 12 deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 100 and 31 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 22 cases and North Wales Borough with 11 cases.
Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 710 and 87 deaths. Cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:
Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 688 cases and 68 deaths.
The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 548, of which 479 (87%) have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 94 of the county’s long-term care and congregate living facilities have reported positive cases, including 1,734 positive cases among residents and 628 positive cases among staff members. County officials said that more than 260 residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus, and 24% of those hospitalized require the use of a ventilator.
A 14-day average of 30 new cases or less per day is one of the primary metrics for Montgomery County moving into the yellow phase of reopening. As of May 20, the 14-day average stands at 99.6, according to county data.

State level data and statistics were not available at the time of publishing on Wednesday. In an email, state officials stated that there was a delay in securing the data, and an update would be provided later on Wednesday.
