Community Members, Hatfield Fire Co. Help Celebrate Woman’s 90th Birthday

Dozens of friends, family and community members, along with the help of the Hatfield Fire Company, coordinated a memorable birthday celebration on Saturday for 90-year-old Jean Goetter.

Goetter, who resides on Willow Drive in Hatfield Township, turned 90 on May 16, and that milestone was marked by a parade of vehicles going past her home, along with celebratory signs and the socially-distant singing of Happy Birthday.

“She didn't know that we were planning this parade, as we did something much smaller for her for Easter,” said Jen Gray, Goetter’s granddaughter. “We planned this because she is hitting a huge milestone, and with everything that has been happening, she hasn't been able to see any of us and we want her to know how special she is to us and that we still have her with us.”

Gray said that all together, Goetter has seven children, 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. After marrying her late-husband, Carl, in 1951, Goetter moved to Hatfield Township. Carl, along with his sons, were very-active with the Hatfield Fire Company, as was Goetter, according to Gray.

“She was part of the auxiliary there for many years,” Gray said. “That’s where we held a lot of our Christmas parties, because not many places could fit us all.”

When Goetter wasn’t tending to her large family, Gray said that she was very active with Grace Lutheran Church, including singing in the choir and providing administrative assistance. Additionally, Goetter and her husband were active members of the Keystone Roadrunners camping grounds, Gray said.

“Grammy was always someone you could go to with a problem, even if she was just listening, but would always be willing to give advice, too,” said Gray. “And she was always up for a prayer chain that had to go around; she would make sure she called everyone to ask for prayers.”

North Penn Now would like to offer a belated Happy Birthday to Jean Goetter, and we wish you the best going forward.
