Three local emergency agencies received a generous donation of much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) on Thursday afternoon, courtesy of Skippack Pharmacy on Skippack Pike.

Dr. Mayank “Mak” Amin, owner and operator of Skippack Pharmacy—located at 4118 Skippack Pike—arranged for the donation and distribution, stating that having been born and raised in Lansdale, he thought it was important to give back to his community.

“All of us have to come together and help each other out,” said Amin, while wearing his infamous Spider Man costume. “These are our heroes, and we have to support them. Together, anything is possible.”

The donation was part of a larger effort to distribute supplies and equipment to emergency response personnel each week. Amin, who launched a GoFundMe page in late March to purchase bulk equipment for community agencies, said his goal is to distribute 50,000 pieces of PPE throughout the ongoing pandemic.

Representatives from the Lansdale Borough Police Department, Fairmount Fire Company and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale were on hand to accept the donations, each taking a moment to thank Amin and his staff for continuing to look out for first responders.

“We’re very appreciative of the donation,” said Michael Trail, Lansdale Borough Police Chief. “The masks, gloves and everything else are a valuable asset right now.”

That sentiment was echoed by Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, who said that the acquisition of PPE has been a difficult challenge for emergency responders during the pandemic.

“We are so grateful for Mak and the whole Skippack Pharmacy team who were able to be our superhero’s by donating personal protective equipment to the Lansdale Police Department,” said Herbert. “The acquisition of PPE has been one of the most frustrating issues facing our department throughout this pandemic. Officers rely on this equipment so that they can continue to operate in a safe way for both themselves and for the public they are serving. For this reason, donations of PPE are vital and deeply appreciated.“
