Officials from Lansdale’s Fairmount Fire Company have announced that the 2020 “Under the Lights” Car Show will not take place in June as scheduled.
In an email to North Penn Now, Fairmount’s Ian Fickert said that with everything shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, there would be no way to safely gather that many people together in June. The fire company is currently pursing other potential dates in the late-summer or early-fall time frame, but if restrictions remain on large gatherings, they may have to cancel the event entirely.
The “Under the Lights” Car Show typically draws tens of thousands of visitors into the borough annually, and it is also one of the region’s only night-time car shows. The event typically spans a closed West Main Street from Broad Street to Valley Forge Road, and showcases hundreds of vehicles, music, food vendors and more.
In addition to the car show being postponed, Fickert also stated that the fire company’s annual golf outing has been cancelled for 2020. Together, those two events represent the fire company’s two major fundraising efforts of the year.
North Penn Now will be providing a follow up in the coming weeks, detailing the fire company’s fundraising efforts and how they have been impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Until then, feel free to view our photo gallery from last year’s “Under the Lights” Car Show.
