Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and associated mitigation efforts, organizers for the 2020 Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival have announced they will cancel this year’s event.
“In these uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot take away from you, our guests, vendors, sponsors and volunteers, as your attention needs to be focused on your businesses and family’s lively hoods,” organizers said, via press release. “It is not a decision we take lightly, and [we] understand that many of you are ready to get out and enjoy our great community.”
Planning for this year’s event was provided by the Knights for Life, with some assistance from Lansdale Area Fundraising Society (LAFS) members Ray Liberto and Drew Stockmal. Planning and organization of the event was officially transitioned from LAFS to Knights for Life in 2019.
“We had some very exciting things planned with our local brewers for the 2020 festival,” reads the release. “Now, with the extended time that we will have under our belts by next June, look for the 2021 event to be the best you have ever seen!”
The announcement comes days after Governor Tom Wolf extended his stay-at-home order for Montgomery County until June 4. If the county is moved into the yellow phase of reopening after June 4, there would still be a restriction on social gatherings of more than 25 people, meaning the large-scale festival would be prohibited.
The 2020 Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival now joins May and June First Fridays and Lansdale Day as large-scale, local events that have had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus. Fairmount Fire Company said they will be issuing a release in the coming days regarding the fate of the 2020 Under the Lights Car Show.
In the interim, beerfest organizers asked that residents continue to support their local breweries.
“Please continue to support our local breweries and businesses, as they are most eager to provide Lansdale and our surrounding communities the best of everything they have to offer,” organizers said. “Thank you for your past support of the festival, and we look forward to seeing you next year!”
