Lansdale’s
Hometown Heroes project is still accepting applications for the 2020 season – but not for much longer.
The Borough’s banner project, honoring those who have nobly served our nation in all branches of the military, continues to operate through the pandemic shutdown, since transactions are handled through the mail or via email. Those who wish to honor loved ones can still purchase a banner for this season.
But time grows short. Each year, hundreds of banners are hung from streetlights and poles all around town in one of the town's signature commemorative displays. The banners are installed by Memorial Day, which this year is May 25. And they will remain displayed along Lansdale’s streets right through Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The banners are 24-by-48-inch heavy vinyl, printed the same on both sides, and display the service person’s photograph, their full name, branch of the military and era of service (WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and so on). Honorees must have had a connection to Lansdale.
The Hometown Heroes coordinators note that now is also a good time to register for the 2021-2022 season – which will be two seasons long, and will ensure that loved ones are honored all throughout Lansdale Borough’s big 150th birthday celebration year in 2022.
