Local Organizations Can Now Request Masks Online from Daughters of the American Revolution

Towamencin DAR member Wendy Kelly hands off a batch of donated hand sewn face masks to Officer Fred Lynch of Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department.

There is now a website where organizations can make requests for homemade face masks.

The Service to America Committee of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently launched a public website where organizations can request homemade mask donations, as the need for masks has been so great during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Locally, members of the Towamencin Chapter of DAR have sewn more than 1,400 face masks to help fulfill the urgent need for this piece of personal protective equipment used by essential services personnel during the crisis. Their recipients of homemade face masks, to date, include Upper Gwynedd Township Police, medical office personnel and senior and assisted living communities, among others. In addition, the chapter has helped to fulfill requests from hard-hit Native American communities across the country.

Nationwide, DAR chapter members have sewn more than 273,000 masks as of May 4, according to the tally on the DAR Service to America Facebook page.
