A longtime restaurant fixture in Montgomery Township has abruptly closed its doors.
Ruby Tuesday, located at 650 Cowpath Road, abruptly closed on Wednesday, bringing to an end more than 10 years of dining in Montgomery Township. The location has since been removed from their corporate website, and their Facebook page appears to have been turned over to the corporate office, as well.
Sources told North Penn Now that employees were given little-to-no notice regarding the closure, with some saying that they were told about the closure five minutes before the conclusion of their final shift. Others said they arrived to work on Wednesday, only to find a locked door with a sign stating that they were permanently closed.
North Penn Now has reached out to Ruby Tuesday’s corporate office for comment regarding why the location was closed, and why employees were not told of the looming closure in advance. At the time of the publishing of this article, their public relations department has not responded. We will add their statement should they respond at a later point in time.
The restaurant chain had a 3.8 out of 5 rating on Facebook at the time of their closure, along with a 3 out of 5 rating on Yelp.
The chain was founded in 1972 as a small restaurant near the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Following widespread growth across the United States and beyond, the company has been scaling back by closing locations in recent years.
According to a Yahoo Finance report, Ruby Tuesday closed 51 locations in 2018 and at least 18 more in 2019. The report states that the company is “notoriously tight-lipped” about closures, with many finding out via a sign on the door.
