Stolen Firearm Recovered During Traffic Stop in Montgomery Township: Police

A Pottstown man is facing felony weapons charges stemming from a traffic stop in the parking lot of Taco Bell in Montgomery Township earlier this week.

According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police initiated a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Malibu along the 900 block of North Wales Road at 2:02 p.m. on March 8. Police said the vehicle was showing as having no expiration date for registration, and the registered owner, who was driving the vehicle, had a suspended driver’s license.

During the traffic stop, police asked the driver and passenger—identified as 35-year-old Robert Majors—to exit the vehicle so they could conduct a search, the report states. Upon exiting the vehicle, police conducted a search of Majors, which revealed a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun in his jacket pocket, report states.

The handgun was later confirmed to be stolen from an undisclosed location in East Norriton Township, police said. Majors was then taken into custody, where he allegedly admitted to knowing that the firearm was stolen and that he did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, the report states.

Additionally, police said that due to Majors having prior felony convictions for aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, he was not permitted to own or carry a firearm.

As a result of the incident, Majors has been charged with felony counts of possession of firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license and receiving stolen property.

Majors was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Henry Schireson, who set bail at $10,000 cash. Majors was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
