Lansdale Borough Police are investigating the death of a North Penn High School student, whose body was discovered near Oak Park Elementary on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail, police discovered the body at 4 p.m. along the 500 block of Squirrel Lane on March 11. The victim was later identified by North Penn School District as Gerald “Jerry” Coshin, a senior student at the high school.
Trail told North Penn Now that police are investigating the matter, and that based on the circumstances, they have come to a preliminary conclusion but no final determination has been made at this time. Trail declined to comment on the nature of the investigation as well as the preliminary conclusion, but added that it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
In an email sent to parents, North Penn High School Principal Pete Nicholson announced that Coshin had died, and offered condolences to his family and friends.
“As a principal and a father, I join the entire North Penn community in extending our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and all who knew Jerry, during this difficult time,” said Nicholson.
Officials said that counselors would be made available for students who were struggling with Coshin’s death.
“Please contact the school office if you feel your child needs additional assistance,” Nicholson said. “Encourage them to reach out to see one of our school counselors.”
Funeral arrangements and services have not yet been announced.
